Mojito (Classic)

Base Spirit : Rum
Ingredients
  • 2 Measures of White Rum
  • 1 1/2 Limes
  • Fresh Mint Leaves
  • Brown or White Sugar
  • Crushed Ice
  • Soda Water or Sprite
Equipment
  • Muddler
  • Ice Crusher
  • Bar Spoon
  • Thick Tall Soda Glass
  • Tall Drinking Straw
Mojito (Classic)
Cut the Lime into quarters and add to the Soda Glass along with the mint leaves and approximately 2 1/2 heaped Bar Spoons worth of Sugar. Use the Muddler to crush and mix the sugar and mint with the lime pieces.
Add the Crushed Ice, ensuring it is heaped over the top of the glass. Now add the Rum to the glass. Use the bar spoon to stir the ingredients together and top up with either Soda Water or Sprite (depending on how much of sweet tooth you have).
If the ice appears below the top of the glass, add some more crushed ice before serving. Add the Drinking Straw, a small sprig of fresh mint along with a wedge of lime for decoration and serve.
This Cuban classic makes for a refreshingly cool long summer drink. Experimenting with different Rum's (Gold, Dark, Spiced or Overproof) will give this classic cocktail more depth or strength, depending on personal taste.
